I don't have any pirate news that stands out as requiring its own post, but I do want to keep on top of this PW thing and not let it go too long between them. Here are the pirate related items that I have come across since the last PW.
- Freakonomics has a handful of links regarding pirates and economics, including the Invisible Hook by Peter Leeson, piracy as a model for contemporary terrorism, and the economics of piracy.
- Add to the list of once-great bastions of classical piracy who now whine about Somalian attacks: the Dutch.
- Cheap and easy instructions for turning a simple canoe into a kick-ass pirate style junk.
- And the biggest piece of pirate news in a while, "the UN Security Council has unanimously voted to allow countries to send warships into Somalia's territorial waters to tackle pirates." Does this spell the end of the pirate resurgence? Or will it simply drive the pirates to more extreme (i.e. awesome) measures to stay in business? The Jolly Bloger is on the case.
